THE BEAU BRIAR BAND

The Beau Briar Band, led by transgender vocalist Beau Briar is an Austin-based quintet featuring the music of queer jazz musicians. Pulling from the works of Cole Porter, Leonard Bernstein, Ma Rainey, Billie Strayhorn, and more, their mission is to educate their listeners on the social, political, and musical impact of queer voices on today’s jazz idiom. This particular show is paired with a lecture given by Briar; the lecture will be held on July 29th, at the Twin Oaks Branch Library, at 6:45pm. The lecture will cover a historical overview of queer jazz voices, and their set at Batch will demonstrate the music talked about. Come out to support live queer jazz!
