Saxon Pub
About the Venue

Saxon Pub opened in 1990 on South Lamar Boulevard and has since hosted well over thirty thousand live music performances, a number that is almost hard to believe until you realize they book music virtually every single day. The Saxon is a listening room in the truest sense. People come here to sit, drink, and actually pay attention to the music. The room is not large, maybe a couple hundred people when it is full, and the stage is low and close. The booking favors singer-songwriters, Americana, blues, folk, and the kind of Texas roots music that does not need a light show to make an impact. The venue has been the location for films, music videos, and countless live recordings over the years. Some of Austin's finest musicians consider the Saxon their home stage. The happy hour sets are legendary in their own right, with veteran players performing to a crowd that appreciates every note. The bar is no-frills, the drinks are affordable, and the atmosphere rewards people who actually want to listen. Saxon Pub exists in a sweet spot that is increasingly rare: a room where the music comes first, the audience respects that, and the business model somehow keeps working year after year. If you care about songwriting and musicianship more than hype and spectacle, the Saxon is sacred ground.
