Central Machine Works
About the Venue

Central Machine Works sits in a building on East Cesar Chavez that operated as a steel fabrication shop called Capital Machine Works from 1940 to 2016. The brewery and venue opened in 2019, preserving the industrial character of the space while adding a full-service bar, a food menu, a beer hall, and a sprawling beer garden. The brewing operation produces solid beer, but CMW has become more than just a brewery. The beer hall and garden host live music, community events, and private functions, making it a gathering space for the East Austin neighborhood. The building still has that fabrication-shop feel, with high ceilings, exposed metal, and the kind of patina that comes from decades of actual work being done in a space. The beer garden is large and shaded, a good spot to spend a weekend afternoon with a fresh pint and whatever food they are running that day. Central Machine Works is family friendly, welcomes walk-ins, and has its own parking lot off East 5th Street, which is a genuine luxury on the East Side. The venue fills a role that is increasingly valuable in Austin: a place where the neighborhood can come together over good beer and good company without anyone trying too hard to be cool about it.
