About the Venue

Guero's Taco Bar has been a South Congress institution for over thirty-five years, and while it is technically a restaurant, the live music in the Oak Garden earns it a place in any conversation about Austin venues. The food is interior Mexican with a Tex-Mex edge, featuring handmade corn tortillas, mole, and proper tacos al pastor. But from Wednesday through Sunday, the tree-shaded Oak Garden out back becomes a live music stage with a full bar, and that is where the real magic happens. The setting is about as Austin as it gets, eating good tacos under live oaks while a band plays country, blues, or rock a few feet away from your table. Guero's is a meeting spot for locals and a destination for visitors, and the wait for a table on a Saturday afternoon is a known quantity. The vibe is casual, the staff has been described as eclectic, and the margaritas are reliable. Presidents have eaten here. So have your neighbors. The building itself, a former feed store on South Congress, has the kind of character that new construction cannot fake. If you are looking for a place that combines food, music, and atmosphere in a way that feels distinctly Austin and not at all forced, Guero's delivers. It is not trying to be a music venue. It just happens to be a great one.
